Setting: A hacienda field, 1910.

Narrator 1: For thirty years, Porfirio Díaz ruled Mexico. The country modernized—but the wealth went to a tiny elite.

Campesino 1: My grandfather farmed this land freely. Now I work it as a slave.

Emiliano Zapata: The land belongs to those who work it! ¡Tierra y Libertad!

Campesino 2: ¡Tierra y Libertad!

Soldadera: The women of Mexico fight too. We are not following our husbands—we are fighting for our children.

Narrator 2: The Revolution lasted ten years. One million died. But from the ashes came a new Constitution in 1917.

Zapata: It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees!
